Mongol Derby 2014 Medics Blog 15/08/2014

Medic’s blog 15-8-14 by Deborah Swann

Last day of the race and the riders who are left to finish are in good spirits.

Medic 1 has not been too busy today; other than giving advice about painkillers and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories it’s been peaceful.

Deborah has done regular wound checks for one of the Cavalry Troopers. He fell from his horse and sustained extensive abrasions to his right arm. In this environment, wounds can get infected quickly, so Deborah wanted to keep a close eye on the wounds to ensure they were healing well.

In true soldier fashion, every time Trooper Pearce had his arm dressed, he flexed his biceps in a manly way. This didn’t wash with Deborah, but she appreciated the effort.

Medic 1 is now at the finish line, waiting for the final riders to complete the longest, toughest horse race in the world. We are still on stand-by and are yearning for the shower, which is tantalisingly close and in full view of Medic 1. Damn those tempting showers beckoning us!

Once everyone is safely across the finish line, the festivities will begin, and Medic 1 and Medic 2 will no doubt be busy again in the morning.
